Maren Sauer was born in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, and grew up in Zurich, Switzerland. After successfully completing a vocational apprenticeship as a goldsmith (EFZ), she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance at the Zurich University of the Arts, graduating in 2023.

During the 2022/23 season, Maren was an apprentice with the dance ensemble at Theater Münster under the direction of Lillian Stillwell. She returned the following season as a guest artist and has since been working as a freelance dancer. Her recent collaborations include the Nunzio Impellizzeri Dance Company, FLOCK—directed by Florian Lochner and Alice Klock and the Zurich Opera House, where she most recently performed in productions by choreographer Sommer Ulrickson and director Claus Guth. In addition to her performance work, she has contributed to productions as a choreographic assistant.

In addition to her performance work, Maren is actively involved in dance education and outreach through Danse Suisse, where she contributes to the national dance calendar and supports platforms for professional opportunities within the dance field. In 2024, she completed her certification as a Pilates Mat Instructor, followed by her Pilates Reformer Instructor certification in 2025. In 2026, Maren is part of the Scene Committee at Brücki 235, contributing to the active freelance dance scene in Zurich.

Maren has performed in works by Nadav Zelner, Joost Vrouenraets, Ihsan Rustem, Alice Klock & Florian Lochner, Antonin Rioche, Muhammed Kaltuk, Lida Ouroubei, Seh Yun Kim, Craig Davidson, Ashley Wright, among others.
